Following the recent departure of Regional Arts Australia’s Executive Director, Jane Scott, after two years in the role, RAA Chair Dennis Goldner has announced that former Director of Regional Arts Victoria, Lindy Allen, will step into the role for six months, to support RAA whilst a recruitment process takes place.
Lindy, who has just finished working on the One River project as part of the Centenary of Canberra, will commence in the role on Mon 16 September.
“Jane Scott managed RAA through a period of significant change,” Mr Goldner said.
“We moved the office from South Australia to Melbourne, where it is now located at Milton House in Flinders Lane. We have renegotiated the delivery of the Regional Arts Fund and we are embarking on a new partnership with the Australia Council. We wish Jane well with her move to the role of CEO and Artistic Director of Craft Victoria.”
Lindy Allen spent eight years in the role of Director at Regional Arts Victoria, managing a number of major projects in this time, including the RAA national conference in Horsham, the Possum Skin Cloak project that was part of the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games in 2006 and the Illuminated by Fire project over 2010 and 2011, which worked with eleven regional communities affected by the 2009 bushfires.
During this time she was a Director on the Board of Regional Arts Australia, serving several years as Treasurer and playing an integral role in development, advocacy and promotion for the arts.
“Lindy Allen has rich experience in regional arts and will hit the ground running to keep RAA on a good trajectory.” Mr Goldner said.
Regional Arts Australia is the key national body representing the broad and complex interests and concerns of those working with and for the arts in regional, rural and remote Australia. As an advocate, Regional Arts Australia has achieved significant results winning better recognition and support for the enormous contribution that regional arts make to the cultural, economic and social wellbeing of the nation.
It is anticipated the recruitment process for the role of Director, Regional Arts Australia will be advertised in early February next year.
