A new music and arts festival – The Lost Lands – is set to inspire kids and adults in equal measure, boasting shared experiences for creatives, music-lovers and the adventurous.
The three-day festival, held at Werribee Mansion over Melbourne Cup Weekend (28 – 31 October), will bring together music, art, theatre, thinking, comedy and camping experiences for adults and children in a music festival setting.
Music lovers will be immersed in a ‘lost land’ of music, arts and exploration with the program including Mariachi El Bronx, The Waifs, Missy Higgins, CW Stoneking, Ozomatli, Architecture In Helsinki, The Grates, The Bamboos with Tim Rogers, Harts, Tash Sultana, Olympia, Ali Barter, Pounded By The Surf, Nicky Bomba, Ainslie Wills, Alex Lahey, The Little Stevies and The Royal Jellies.
International and domestic arts and inspiration acts enhance the music experience with Polyglot Tangle, Makeover Mom and Dad (Canada), The Listies, Total Nonstop Tricks, The Laughter House and Coney Small People, Big Questions (UK) amongst the hefty programming.
With a vision to inspire big hearts and bright minds, the festival’s literacy area will host readings and discussion topics for both adults and children. The comprehensive workshop offering will encourage newfound skills and passions in song writing, cooking, yoga, circus play and more. Camping, bushwalks, bike riding and visits to the nearby Werribee Zoo will get festival-goers into the great outdoors.
The brainchild of the Falls Festival founder, Simon Daly, The Lost Lands is his next venture since leaving Falls Festival, who says it’s a festival with big aspirations. “The Lost Lands will give parents the chance to reconnect with the festival experience, while instilling in kids, a love and appreciation of music, arts and adventure,” said Daly.
“With a family of five, Simon saw the need for a stronger family-orientated cultural scene in Australia. In Europe a number of Festivals include children; beyond entry. They program shared experiences to be enjoyed by parents, kids, singles – anyone really.”
“The result is a more sophisticated generation who know, love and participate in the festival experience. I think there’s an appetite for more experiences crafted with parents and kids in mind and it’s exciting for the industry.”
The Lost Lands’ incredible programming is paired with an enviable lineup of festival fare, curated craft beer, wine, organic spirits, and even a distillery and interactive camp kitchen – is open to all creative minds, music-lovers and adventurous souls: families, singles and anyone in between, looking for a deeper festival experience. Three and two-day camping options are available and include good ol’ fashion camping, glamping and mansion stays.
