What would you do differently from what you do now?
My hub would be happier if I listened more and interrupted less. But like the song says, I Am What I Am.
Who inspires you and why?
Gina Riley. Paul O’Grady aka Lily Savage. Anne ‘Willsy’ Wills. Fellow self-starting, self-created performers who started from nothing and nowhere and refused to take No for an answer.
What would you do to make a difference in the world?
Work out a way to convince people that the Earth isn’t flat, that Covid is real and that time’s up to actually do something serious about climate change.
Favourite holiday destination and why?
San Francisco. A truly beautiful, bohemian oasis of urbanity and fun, all the more remarkable for being in the United States.
When friends come to town, what attractionwould you take them to, and why?
The Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade and Festival. We’ve created something quite unique over the last four decades. It’s so much more than just a Party or a Protest.
What are you currently reading?
I’m always in the middle of three or four books: The Fkying Kangaroo: 100 Years of QANTAS; Killing Sydney: The Fight For A City’s Soul by Elizabeth Farrelly; Turns Out I’m Fine by Judith Lucy; and Still Here: The Madcap, Nervy, Singular Life of Elaine Stritch by Alexandra Jacobs.
What are you currently listening to?
Louis Prima and Keely Smith’s brilliant Live albums, recorded in Las Vegas in the 50s. The swingingest!
A schnauzer named Alfie.
What does the future hold for you?
