Who is Josephine Blazier?
Josephine Blazier. I’m the daughter of a single mother, an attention seeker as a result and extremely ambitious. I am obsessed with music and films that make you cry and I simultaneously take life really lightly and really seriously all at once. I love writing though I hardly write, I love dancing but I prefer to be alone when doing it and I am constantly working out how to live the best life I can.
What would you do differently from what you do now?
Honestly I imagine I would have pursued music, first as a performer, but then I would have gone into management or some sort of role where my job was to consume it on mass and then curate it for other people. Either that or I would have a careerless life earning money doing dead end jobs to put aside so I could travel the world. I used to want to leave a legacy behind me which I believe is why I pursued acting in the first place, but now it’s less significant for me. Now I want to “prioritise beauty” like Miranda July states in her new book All Fours. Thankfully I believe you can do that with acting, so I think I’ll always be an actor, as it’s an incredible vessel to do so!
Who inspires you and why?
Off the top of my head I would say, Elizabeth Moss and Viola Davis and Willem Dafoe, when it comes to career. Every time I see them act I am so moved and reminded why the craft is so essential. I also heard Willem has a hobby farm in Italy which I personally find inspiring!
What would you do to make a difference in the world?
I would really like to give back more in my life. I am still not sure how or what, but figuring it out! But for one I would like to see huge changes for Indigenous Australians in terms of equal education and accessibility. I am not opposed to the idea of a universal base income. Over all, I would love to live in a world that was less individualistic or egocentric, but I think they are difficult values to shift, as society is still deeply attached to traditional depictions of success – something I would also like to see change.
Favourite holiday destination and why?
I probably had the best holiday of my life in New York City, probably because I love talking to strangers and I did a lot of that there!
When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
In Sydney I would take them to Clovelly Bowls Club and sit on the grass with a beer overlooking the ocean. It’s stunning but it’s also not far from the airport and a simple yet amazing first impression of Sydney.
What are you currently reading?
I just finished All Fours by Miranda July. I’m obsessed but I am keen to get stuck into Intermezzo by Sally Rooney (of course).
What are you currently listening to?
I’ve been listening to the soundtrack of that new film Nightbitch a lot. It’s got a bit of everything in it, a few select songs on repeat though Wolf in the Breast by the Cocteau Twins, Fleez by Yeah Yeah Yeahs to name a few. Also I’m loving the new releases from FKA twigs, Perfect Stranger and Eusexua from her upcoming album. Fav new song to me though is Mouth by Merril Bainbridge, tis dangerous! And I’ve recently fallen in love with Lael Neale!
Happiness is?
Being kissed by someone you love.
What does the future hold for you?
I really would like to produce and star in my own film in the medium term. That’s one of my biggest personal and professional goals! Otherwise hopefully more travel, more work and hopefully more opportunities to collaborate with other creatives.
