Who is Jehangir Homavazir?
Who am I? It’s a big question. At my core, I’m an actor – someone who’s constantly exploring different perspectives and stories. I’m also a proud Zoroastrian and Parsi, born and raised in East Auckland, where I grew up surrounded by sport, music, and drama. Those early interests really shaped who I am and what I love to do.
What would you do differently from what you do now?
At one point, I was accepted into university for Computer Science at the same time I was auditioning for drama school. If things had gone differently, I might have followed that path – but I think storytelling was always where I was meant to end up.
Who inspires you and why?
My parents inspire me the most. Their work ethic, resilience, and the way they’ve supported me have had a huge impact on who I am. If I can carry even a fraction of that into my own life, I’d consider that a success.
What would you do to make a difference in the world?
Storytelling through film and theatre has always felt like a way to bridge worlds. It invites people in – no matter where they come from – to see, feel, and interpret something in their own way. That kind of connection is powerful, and I’m drawn to the role it can play in shifting perspectives and bringing people closer together. I want to keep creating work that sparks that connection, while actively supporting and uplifting minority voices so a wider range of stories can be shared and celebrated.
Favourite holiday destination and why?
Rome stands out as one of my favourite places I’ve visited. I’ve always been drawn to history, and being surrounded by landmarks like the Colosseum, the Pantheon, and the Trevi Fountain was unforgettable. There’s something special about experiencing places that have stood for centuries – plus, the food didn’t hurt either!
When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
It really depends on the person, but I’d probably start with some of Auckland’s iconic spots – like the Sky Tower or a walk along the harbour. If there’s time, a trip to Waiheke Island for a wine tour is always a great option. I like tailoring the experience to what people enjoy most!
What are you currently reading?
At the moment, I’m re-reading A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini. It’s a book that really stays with you. I’m trying to get back into reading more regularly, so I’m always open to recommendations!
What are you currently listening to?
My taste in music is pretty wide-ranging. I’ll go from R&B to rock, to Bollywood, to classical – it really depends on the mood. I like having that variety.
Happiness is?
Happiness, to me, is a sense of balance and contentment. It’s found in the everyday things – looking after yourself, spending time with family, staying active, and feeling connected to the people around you. It’s not just a moment, but something you build over time.
What does the future hold for you?
I hope the future is guided by purpose – continuing to grow, to create, and to stay grounded in good thoughts, good words, and good deeds.
