Melbourne Queer Film Festival announce Award Winners

52-TUESDAYSAfter 14 days of screening the best queer film from around Australia and the world, the 24th Melbourne Queer Film Festival (MQFF) has come to an end with the announcement of the Audience Choice and Jury Award Winners.

This year, the MQFF has awarded $8,000 in cash prizes to films across a range of genres. And the winners are…

Audience Choice Awards
Best Feature Film: 52 Tuesdays – Sophie Hyde
$1,500 cash – presented by MQFF Members Warwick Eddington and Tony Hillery

Best Documentary: Bridegroom – Linda Bloodworth-Thomason
$2,000 cash – presented by MQFF Life Member & Sweetheart David McCarthy

Best Australian Short Film: The Language of Love – Laura Scrivano
$500 cash – presented by Step Right Up

Best Short Film: Spooners – Bryan Horch
$500 cash – presented by twenty21

Jury Awards
MQFF’s Jury Awards recognise home grown filmmakers from the diverse selection of Australian short films screening this year in the Oz Shorts and Celluloid Casserole packages.

The City of Melbourne Emerging Filmmaker Award for Best Australian Short Queer Film– all films in the Oz Shorts are eligible. $3,000 cash – presented by City of Melbourne
Winner: The Last Time I Saw Richard – directed by Nicholas Verso

Selectors’ Choice Award for Best Australian Short Queer Film – all films in Celluloid Casserole are eligible. $500 cash – presented by Shaun Miller Lawyers
Winner: Trunk – directed by Jack Cox

Through these awards MQFF support the exceptional work of talented filmmakers from Australia and around the world. The 25th Melbourne Queer Film Festival will be held in March 2015.
