Frances is a bundle of contradictions. How does a control freak live a balanced life when she is caught between conflicting lifestyles, “I want it all and I want it now” AND “I want to slow down and go with the flow”?
It’s a little risk, a little raunch and a whole lot of unravelling as Frances loses control. The virtues of procrastination and the results of mixing yoga and alcohol are all part of her slightly misguided quest for a more balanced life.
The show’s creator, Belinda Raisin, has a reputation for unique, quirky, heartfelt characters. Perhaps it has something to do with years of struggling with contemporary ideals of what she was supposed to be and the irresistible pursuit of perfection. Part of the physical comedy in the show comes from her past life as a professional ballerina.
Belinda was part of Brisbane’s successful cabaret ensemble, The Duvets, but went solo when the group’s performance venue, Drift, literally drifted down the Brisbane River in the 2011 floods. She will be reunited with pitch-perfect Musical Director, Jen Teh and Jen’s multi-talented husband, Jamie. Totally blind since birth, he has the best ears in the business.
Belinda Raisin’s Confessions of a Control Freak is presented as part of the 2013 Melbourne Cabaret Festival.
