Billy Elliot The Musical opens on the Gold Coast

Seen by over 4 million people globally, the Tony Award winning Billy Elliot The Musical is now playing for the first time in Queensland at The Star Gold Coast until 13 August 2023.

Based on the international smash-hit film and featuring a score by the legendary Elton John, book and lyrics by Lee Hall, Billy Elliot The Musical is an astonishing theatrical experience that will stay with you forever.

Named Time Magazine’s “Best Musical of the Decade!” Billy Elliot The Musical is the spectacular show with heart, humour and passion.

Set in a northern English mining town, against the background of the 1984 miners’ strike, Billy Elliot is the inspirational story of a young boy’s struggle against the odds to make his dream come true.

Follow Billy’s journey as he stumbles out of the boxing ring and into a ballet class where he discovers a passion for dance that inspires his family and community and changes his life forever.

Directed by Tim Hill, Billy Elliot The Musical’s creative team includes musical direction by Nicholas Griffin, choreography by Keith Hawley, set design by Madeleine Barlow, costume design by Jess Hansen and lighting design by Wesley Bluff. Tess Hill is assistant director and Justin Anderson is the resident choreographer / dance captain.

Twelve year old triple threats Diesel Batson, Harrison Smith and Ethan Dahl have all landed the role of young Billy Elliott. They are joined by a stellar cast including Debora Krizak (Mrs Wilkinson), James Shaw (Billy’s Dad), Daniel R Nixon (Tony), Ben Trigger ( Mr Braithwaite), Kate Peters (Grandma), Elliot Baker (George).

They are joined by Stephen Hirst, Michael Hughes, Giovanni Young (Tony Cover), Justin Anderson, Leah Lim, Jordan Twigg, Gabriel Tiller, Jayden Grogan (Older Billy), Brandon Dowery, Chloe Rose Taylor (Dead Mum) and Caity Plummer.
