Annie has captured the hearts of audiences around the world since its Broadway debut in 1977 – and now the legendary musical returns to Australia. With its iconic score, featuring classics like: It’s the Hard-Knock Life, Easy Street and Tomorrow, Annie is truly a timeless musical masterpiece. Starring Anthony Warlow as ‘Daddy’ Warbucks, Debora Krizak as Miss Hannigan, alongside Mackenzie Dunn as Lily St. Regis, and Keanu Gonzalez as Daniel ‘Rooster’ Hannigan, and Amanda Lea LaVergne as Grace Farrell, Annie plays Sydney’s Capitol Theatre from March and Melbourne’s Princess Theatre from July 2025.

The Olivier Award winner for Best New Musical will have its Australian premiere at the Sydney Lyric in September 2025. Based on the Universal Pictures/Amblin Entertainment film, the Musical has a book by Bob Gale, new music and lyrics by Emmy and Grammy Award-winning Alan Silvestri and six-time Grammy Award-winning Glen Ballard, with additional songs from the film including The Power of Love and Johnny B. Goode. The musical is based on the first film which sees rock ‘n’ roll teenager Marty McFly accidentally transported back to 1955 in a time-travelling DeLorean invented by his friend, Dr. Emmett Brown. But before he can return to 1985, Marty must make sure his high school-aged parents fall in love in order to save his own existence. Back to the Future: The Musical will play the Sydney Lyric Theatre from September 2025.

With a fresh, electric score and vibrant energy, Bearded captures the resilience, humour, and heartbreak of Bet and Ace’s journey as they seek love and acceptance. Forced to keep their true selves hidden, they juggle family loyalty and self-discovery in a way that’s both deeply personal and universally resonant. Bearded plays St Kilda’s Theatre Works from 8 – 18 January 2025

From the producers of The Lion King, Mary PoppinsAladdin and Frozen, this enchanting and timeless tale of Belle and her Beast is brought to life in a reimagined production boasting all the spectacle and grandeur audiences know and love. With music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Howard Ashman and Tim Rice, audiences will rejoice in the nostalgic and spellbinding songs including Belle, Gaston, Human Again and Be Our Guest. Beauty and the Beast is a much-loved classic that will fill the hearts of a new generation. The musical continues at Her Majesty’s Theatre, Melbourne until 20 April, before playing the Adelaide Festival Centre from 8 May, and the Crown Theatre Perth from 24 July 2025.

Australian theatre fans have chanted Beetlejuice three times and the most mischievous corpse in the history of musicals has responded. Michael Cassel Group, Warner Bros. Theatre Ventures and Langley Park Productions will present the eight-time Tony Award-nominated hit musical Beetlejuice exclusively in Melbourne at the Regent Theatre in April 2025. After earning a Tony Award nomination for the music and lyrics he wrote for Beetlejuice (the musical), Eddie Perfect will star as the most mischievous corpse, made famous by Michael Keaton in Tim Burton’s wonderfully demented film.

The ambitious and greedy owner of Pine Grove Aged Care, Mrs MacIntyre, thinks she’s struck gold when she comes up with a brilliant plan to cut costs: offering free room and board to uni students in exchange for unofficial shifts as care workers. But the arrival of Finn Bailey, a layabout twenty-something with a heart of gold, throws her plan into disarray. Directed with hilarity and compassion by Dean Bryant (Hubris & HumiliationDear Evan Hansen), with music by Katie Weston, this joyful production takes Working Dog’s distinctive brand of Aussie humour and uses it to build a bold and charming vision of hope. The NSW premiere of the ingenious and inspiring musical by the superb Steve Martin and Edie Brickell. Drawn from a true story and featuring a Tony-nominated score, Bright Star tells a sweeping tale of love and redemption set against the rich backdrop of the American South in the 1920s and ‘40s. When literary editor Alice Murphy meets a young soldier just home from World War II, he awakens her longing for the child she once lost. Haunted by their unique connection, Alice sets out on a journey to understand her past, and what she finds has the power to transform both of their lives. With stunning melodies, gorgeous actor-centric theatricality and powerfully moving characters, the story is an evocative tapestry of deep emotion. An uplifting journey, Bright Star is as refreshingly genuine as it is daringly hopeful. Welcome to the rough-and-tumble town of Deadwood, where swaggering sharpshooter Calamity Jane is mocked and admired in equal measure. Deadly with a whip or a quip, her bluster and bravado mask a longing for something deeper. Cabaret daredevil Naomi Price (Drizzle Boy, Ladies in Black) slips into Jane’s trail-worn boots for this rootin’ tootin’ unruly and unpredictable ride. Join Calamity’s piano-fuelled posse and pull up a stool at one of the on-stage saloon tables to be part of the action! This revival has all your favourite numbers, including Secret Love and The Black Hills of Dakota, but this ain’t Doris Day’s Calamity Jane – this stripped-back reimagining shucks off the buckskin and brings a barrelful of dirt and grit to the classic musical. Calamity Jane will play in the Bille Brown Theatre – Queensland Theatre from 22 March – 17 April 2025

Candide plays in the Joan Sutherland Theatre – Sydney Opera House from 20 February – 14 March 2025.

Victorian Opera presents FOLLIESFOLLIES
Victorian Opera will stage an all-star cast production of Stephen Sondheim and James Goldman’s Tony-Award-winning musical, FOLLIES, in Australia’s first fully staged professional production at St Kilda’s Palais Theatre. Stuart Maunder AM is at the helm of this grand-scale new production with an all-star cast including Marina Prior, Antoinette Halloran, Adam Murphy, Alexander Lewis, Colette Mann, Geraldene Morrow, Evelyn Krape, Merlyn Quaife, Rhonda Burchmore and Geraldine Turner. Set in a run-down theatre scheduled for demolition, former chorus girls reunite to honour performing there during the interwar years. As the women remember those glamorous years, the faded theatre is propelled back through time and transforms into its former grandeur. FOLLIES will be presented at the Palais Theatre from 1 February 2025.

ATC Ghost QuartetGhost Quartet
After two sold-out seasons in Melbourne, Antipodes Theatre Company will make their Sydney premiere with their critically-acclaimed production of Ghost Quartet at Hayes Theatre Co this January. Written and composed by Dave Malloy, Ghost Quartet is an intoxicating musical odyssey about love, death and whisky. Four friends conjure spirits (both spectral and alcoholic) as they unravel four interwoven narratives spanning seven centuries: a warped fairy tale about two sisters and a treehouse astronomer; a retelling of Edgar Allan Poe’s The Fall of the House of Usher; a purgatorial intermezzo about Scheherazade and the ghost of Thelonious Monk; and a contemporary fable about a subway murder. Ghost Quartet will play the Hayes Theatre Co from 8 January – 1 February 2025.

From the Tony Award-winning songwriting duo of Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (Seussical, Ragtime) comes the Olivier Award-winning Once on This Island. This vibrant adaptation infuses its Caribbean roots with Australia’s own rich cultural tapestry, injecting new life into the Hans Christian Anderson tale, The Little Mermaid. Ti Moune, a humble peasant girl, courageously saves the life of Daniel, a wealthy boy from the far side of the island, and soon finds herself captivated by love. Little does she know, the island’s proud Gods wager on a timeless question: which is stronger, love or death? The unwitting pawn in their bet, Ti Moune’s life hangs in the balance as she follows her heart. Encouraged to help the struggling choir, she helps her fellow sisters find their true voices as she unexpectedly rediscovers her own. Joining Donovan in donning the habit will be the much-loved Genevieve Lemon in the role of Mother Superior and Rhonda Burchmore as choir leader Sister Mary Lazarus, supported by an all-star cast. The Mormons are Back! This outrageous musical comedy follows the misadventures of a mismatched pair of missionaries, sent on a mission to a place that’s about as far from Salt Lake City as you can get. The Book of Mormon features book, music and lyrics by Trey ParkerRobert Lopezand Matt Stone. The production is co-directed by Casey Nicholaw and Parker and choreographed by Nicholaw. The Book of Mormon made its world premiere in March 2011 at Broadway’s Eugene O’Neil Theatre, winning nine Tony Awards® including Best Musical and the Grammy® for Best Musical Theatre album. The London production opened in February 2013 at the Prince of Wales Theatre, winning four Olivier Awards®, including Best New Musical. The Australian premiere season in Melbourne in 2015 broke the record for the highest selling on-sale period of any production in the Princess Theatre’s 159-year history. It also won the Helpmann Award for Best Musical. The Book of Mormon plays Sydney’s Capitol Theatre from 15 July 2025.

The Pirates of Penzance will play His Majesty’s Theatre Perth, from 28 March – 5 April 2025.

Hayes Theatre Co Artistic Directors Richard Carroll and Victoria Falconer harness the irreverent, genre-busting spirit of a sprawling, satirical, musical masterwork, and bring it to raucous new life for a 21st-century audience. This brand-new, boisterously joyful adaptation is brought to life by just five bold performers. Between them, they bring to life: The Pirate King, Ruth, Mabel, Frederic, and a Major-General; plus, the motley pirate crew, a troupe of singing police recruits, Mabel’s eclectic group of sisters; and the faithful piratical accomplice/pianist, Fish Cake. The Pirates of Penzance will play The Art House, Wyong (7 – 8 February), Hayes Theatre Co, Sydney (14 February – 16 March), Illawarra Performing Arts Centre, Wollongong (26 – 29 March) and the Canberra Theatre Centre (2 – 6 April).
