Who is Freya Moore?
A performer in her early 20s who is holding on to the feeling of being on stage for the first time at 8 years old and just running with it.
What would you do differently from what you do now?
I don’t think there was ever a different career path on the table, so I think I go back in time and tell myself to slow down and actually enjoy each moment. I’d tell little me that it’s really not that serious and the only person who cares about that time you fell down the stairs in assembly – is you. And I’d tell her to lean in to every opportunity with her whole being because you’ll either do something amazing or you’ll learn an important lesson, and those things are just as valuable as each other.
Who inspires you and why?
Passionate people! I am so lucky to be surrounded by the most amazing friends and family who exist with so much love and care for what they do and are unapologetic about what they want and can achieve. I’m merely a culmination of all the confidence, drive, love and spirit that emits from the people closest to me.
What would you do to make a difference in the world?
I think kindness and genuine care goes a long way. If everyone wholeheartedly cared about how their words and actions impacted others I think we’d be in a very different climate to the one we’re in now.
Favourite holiday destination and why?
It’s so cliched, but I love Europe. Barcelona is one of the most beautiful cities I’ve had the pleasure of being in and I’d go back in a heartbeat. It is so rich with colour and culture. I also can’t forget England, all of my dad’s family still lives there so I definitely have a strong connection to the UK and it’s always very familiar to go back to.
When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
I have such a love for hidden bars, I’m obsessed with the novelty of it and people’s surprise when they discover a cute little cocktail bar hidden in the middle of the city. Some of my favourites are Old Mate’s Place and Papa Gede’s.
What are you currently reading?
15-year-old me really wish my answer was something super classy like The Brothers Karamazov or Breakfast of Champions, but the reality is – a million different one act plays so that I can pick something for my high school drama students to perform at the end of the year!
What are you currently listening to?
A lot of sad girl music, but not because I’m sad! I’ve been listening to a lot of albums on repeat at the moment: Lizzy McAlpine Older, Billie Eilish Hit Me Hard And Soft, Renee Rapp Snow Angel, Noah Kahn Stick Season, and of course throw in some Chappel Roan, Sabrina Carpenter and Charli xcx.
Happiness is?
A picnic on a beautiful spring day with the best company, a pack of cards and a charcuterie board.
What does the future hold for you?
Oh, I really wish someone could tell me! Stepping out of my comfort zone, meeting amazing people, working on new projects, coming back to old projects. Hopefully decade after decade of new experiences that I can’t even begin to imagine.
However, in the near future I’m so excited to be playing Katniss in Definitely Not A Hungry Game: A Parody Musical. I co-wrote this show a year ago with my housemate Robbie Alexander and we’re so thrilled to finally see it come to life!
Freya can be seen as Katniss in Definitely Not A Hungry Game: A Parody Musical – which plays at the Off Broadway Hub – Turner Theatre, Ultimo, as part of The Sydney Fringe, from 3 – 8 September 2024. For more information, visit: www.sydneyfringe.com for details.
