An Irishman Walks onto a Trawler… Far from being the start of a joke, when Irishman Eoin (pronounced Owen) Ryan joined a fishing trawler for an Australian Coral Sea adventure at the age of 24 he had no idea of the harrowing tale of survival that was about to unfold.
A one-man stage show recounting true events, Trawled is a timely biographical drama. In today’s changing attitudes towards mental health and recognising that telling young men to “man up” can be detrimental, Eoin’s story of a young man surviving bullying, violence, and the spectre of suicide is as important as it is compelling.
Motivated to tell his story to share the message that it’s okay to ask for help, Trawled is a raw distillation of life where unforeseen circumstances, fragile relationships and shifting motivations create an unbearable ‘perfect storm’.
Infused with the irrepressible spirit of Irish humour, Eoin will take audiences back in time as he recounts his days on an Australian prawn trawler, in this remarkable story.
Invited to Adelaide Fringe following a successful run at Edinburgh Fringe, Eoin’s story has also been performed as a TEDx talk and has been called a story of epic proportions and a must see.
