Topology and the Kransky Sisters: Tunes From The Tube

Topoloy The Kransky Sisters Tunes from the TubeFans of music, TV and film are in for the time of their lives when the talents of Topology and The Kransky Sisters collide this Midsumma for an evening of musical mash-ups of popular TV and movie themes in Tunes From The Tube at fortyfivedownstairs from 27 January 2016.

A rehearsal weekend-stay at the Kransky Sisters’ house brings unexpected distractions when acclaimed quintet Topology bring along their TV set – breaking a life-long Kransky family rule. What follows is a musical trip of nostalgia for Topology and a daring delve into the darker side of modern day addictions for the sheltered siblings from Esk.

Watch as they combine forces to present lush orchestrations, eclectic instrumentation and unique renditions of some of the world’s most-loved scores and songs, including iconic themes from Star Trek, Prisoner, Harry Potter and Downton Abbey.

Established 1997, Topology is Australia’s most surprising arts organisation. Nominated for a 2014 ARIA award for best classical album, the prolific music company has a well-established reputation for their original work, using a unique mix of music, theatre and multi-disciplinary collaborations to create exciting, thought-provoking experiences and events.

Featuring John Babbage (saxophone), Robert Davidson (bass), Bernard Hoey (viola), Christa Powell (violin), Sonya Lifschitz (piano), Topology has released 11 albums, produced countless evening-length works, presented an award-winning concert series, toured extensively nationally and internationally, and are Resident artist at Brisbane Powerhouse.

In a quiet town in the middle of south east Queensland lives a huddle of strange sisters – Mourne, Eve and Dawn Kransky. This oddball musical trio marry curious real life stories with a host of uniquely homemade arrangements of popular songs gleaned from their old wireless in a highly entertaining event. With kitchen pot, toilet brush, keyboard, musical saw, tuba, guitar and duelling tambourines these three weird yet endearing spinsters present offbeat covers of songs ranging from Nana Mouskouri and Eurythmics to Talking Heads and The Bee Gees.

The Kransky Sisters (Annie Lee, Christine Johnston and Carolyn Johns) have been regular guests on television including SBS’s In Siberia Tonight and ABC’s The Side Show and Spicks and Specks, and BBC’s Comedy Shuffle.
