Originally presented by Sydney’s Griffin Theatre Company in 2011, Jane Bodie’s This Year’s Ashes is a hilarious, touching, bittersweet comedy about relationships and loss. Of moving and moving on. And the cricket!
Ellen’s moved from Melbourne in pursuit of a new life in shiny Sydney. Stuck in an office job she hates, she has no friends and speaks to no one back home. Ellen prefers the company of strangers – drinking with them, sleeping with them and ideally never seeing them again.
But now it seems that whatever she’s trying to leave behind her is refusing to let go, and the anonymous guy she’s brought home might not be so anonymous after all.
Jane Bodie is one of Australia’s most brutal, insightful and bitingly funny writers. Her plays have won multiple awards, including the Victorian Premier’s Literary Award for Drama and a Green Room Award for Outstanding Writing. She was a nominee for the Patrick White Playwrights’ Award and has written for TV and radio, including The Secret Life of Us and UK’s Moving Wallpaper.
“This Year’s Ashes is a broadly appealing, wryly funny and touching comedy…” Sydney Morning Herald
