A celebration of exceptional theatre that champions bold stories, innovative productions, and outstanding talent, Theatre Works is thrilled to reveal its 2025 season.
In 2025, Theatre Works will continue to uphold their commitment to enriching Melbourne’s arts landscape with a dynamic program that spans genres, styles, and audiences.
“Our 2025 season showcases both ambition and diversity. Returning collaborators Lyric Opera and Neylon & Peele bring their rich expertise, while new partnerships with Watch This and Antipodes Theatre introduce fresh perspectives,” said Dianne Toulson, Executive Director | Creative Producer, Theatre Works.
“Alongside the emerging talent highlighted in our Fresh Works stream, the season features experienced and accomplished artists whose work continues to redefine contemporary Australian theatre.”
“In February 2025, we proudly open our new rehearsal space, a state-of-the-art facility designed to support independent artists with the tools and resources they need to thrive. This milestone represents our unwavering commitment to creating environments where artistry can flourish,” said Toulson.
Highlights of Theatre Works 2025 Season include:
Three Sisters
Directed by Greg Carroll, Chekhov’s Three Sisters takes pride of place on the 2025 VCE Theatre Studies Playlist. This iconic work will be helmed by one of Theatre Works’ founding members, marking a poignant return 40 years after our inception. Season: 7 – 22 March.
Beep Test
The smash hit Beep Test by Connor Neylon & Jackson Peele makes a highly anticipated return after its award-winning premiere at Theatre Works. This fast paced comedic over the top new Australian musical is filled with drama and chaos. Season: 30 April – 10 may.
Love and Information
Love and Information by the legendary Caryl Churchill, directed by rising talent Belle Hansen, promises to deliver a kaleidoscopic exploration of modern relationships and society through Churchill’s razor-sharp wit and innovative structure. Season: 29 May – 14 June.
Soldier Boy
The stage adaptation of Anthony Hill’s moving novel Soldier Boy brings a powerful, true Australian story to life, offering audiences a deeply emotional and thought-provoking experience. Season: 19 June – 5 July.
Theatre Works is also proud to announce two exciting new partnerships. Watch This will produce Colour and Light: The Art of Sondheim – a tribute to the genius of Stephen Sondheim through a unique lens. Season: 18 – 27 September.
Antipodes Theatre Company joins forces with Theatre Works to co-produce Storked by Myf Hocking. Developed as part of the She Writes Collective, this original work showcases the depth of emerging talent fostered by Theatre Works. Season: 15 – 24 May.
Presented as part of the By Theatre Works program, The Machine Stops by Briony Dunn, adapted from the novel by E.M. Forster and starring the incredible Jane Montgomery Griffiths, this thought-provoking production explores the intersection of humanity and technology in a captivating narrative. Season 4 – 17 April.
In 2025, Theatre Works will maintain their signature programming streams: By, With, Fresh, Hosted, and Festival Works. These streams ensure we provide a platform for diverse voices, fresh ideas, and boundary-pushing theatre.
With their two venues fully programmed, audiences can expect a year brimming with unforgettable performances, collaborative productions, and artistic excellence.
