The Sydney Fair returns with a celebration of art, history and culture

The highly anticipated Sydney Fair is back with a bang this May at the Royal Randwick Racecourse – showcasing a rich variety of art, furniture, antiques, fashion and jewellery from around the world.

A true celebration of art, history and culture, The Sydney Fair will welcome back over 60 of the country’s most respected dealers who will share their passion for rare, eccentric items that each tell a story.

It’s a unique opportunity for enthusiasts to connect with experts to learn about the history and provenance of their favourite pieces across antiques, art deco and 20th century.

Visitors to the fair will be able to purchase all items, from a pair of art deco chairs used in Baz Luhrmann’s remake of The Great Gatsby to a pair of Gucci handcuffs from 1998, there really is something for everybody.

Royalists in particular will have plenty to explore with a special exhibition of royal pieces to mark the King’s coronation which will fall on the same weekend.

The collection of coronation pieces will include an original collection of Royal Family personal presentation brooches dating back to 1905 and Queen Alexandra’s reign, an exquisite William IV sterling silver covered bowl from 1831 and even a complete program of the coronation of King Edward VVI from 1902.

Alongside the assortment of stalls and antiques, visitors to the fair will also be treated to a range of shows, talks and discussions.

On both Saturday and Sunday, fashionistas across Sydney can be entertained by Tom McEvoy, a fashion anthropologist who will be taking to the stage to share his passion for vintage fashion, as well as Eleanor Keene who will be taking visitors on a trip to Paris with her talk on distinguished fashion house Yves Saint Laurent.

Fair goers will also be taken to exotic destinations with a fashion exhibition that will take them on a journey to Cairo in the 20s, Shanghai in the 30s, NYC in the 40s, Paris in the 50s, London and Hawaii in the 60s and Los Angeles in the 70s! The fashion exhibition will also feature vintage posters from the different eras on show.

Those with a special piece of art at home can seek out the help of Leigh Capel of Belle Epoque Fine Art who will be offering free art appraisals for attendees at the fair.

The Sydney Fair is the perfect place to discover a vintage treasure or unique piece of history that will add character to anyone’s home or wardrobe.
