The Right Unravelling

Melbourne Fringe The Right Unravelling Zac JonesMelbourne choreographer Zac Jones has created a performance form that synthesizes the insights of musicians, martial artists and dancers into one dynamic movement technique. Rhythmic patterns, singing, explosive power and effortless release all come together in an improvised performance like no other.

Incorporating a live sample and broken beat score performed by Melbourne sound artist Ziggy Zeitgeist (from bands 30/70 and A Brother Scratch), The Right Unravelling explores the morphology of sound, movement and narrative and dissolves the boundaries between performance forms.

Following the original performance of The Right Unravelling at the Victorian College of the Arts in 2015 he began working with Melbourne composer Jordan White to develop the body’s multi rhythmic capacity. Now he has found a true meeting and exchange of spontaneous creative energy emerges with Zeitgeists Zen influenced compositional approach enveloping the work in a soundscape of infinite possibility.

The result is an investigation of movement and performance that is dynamic, unpredictable, broken and complete, where the paradox of martial arts wild violent forms and sensitive and controlled grace is presented through physical ideas, rhythm and improvisation.
