The Nether

Catnip Productions The NetherExploring the consequences of living out our private dreams, Catnip Productions presents the Australian premiere of Jennifer Haley’s The Nether at the Seymour Centre for a limited season from 13 September 2017.

Delving into the dark side of the web, The Nether is an intricate crime drama and haunting thriller set in the not too distant future. The show follows an investigation into the complicated minefield of morality and identity in the digital world, and explores the consequences of making dreams a reality.

Under the guidance of award-winning director Justin Martin (Netflix’s The Crown, and the West End productions An Audience, Billy Elliot, Skylight), The Nether stars Kim Knuckey (TV’s Rosehaven and A Place to Call Home, Great Gatsby), Katie Fitchett (Ensemble, MTC, Griffin Theatre), Alan Faulkner (Royal Shakespeare Company, Sport for Jove), Alec Snow (TV’s Home and Away, La Boite Theatre’s Holding the Man) and Danielle Catanzariti (TV’s Love Child, Hey Hey it’s Esther Blueburger).

Jennifer Haley is an award-winning American playwright whose work delves into ethics in virtual reality and the impact of technology on our human relationships, identity, and desire. Her plays include: Neighborhood 3: Requisition of Doom – a horror story about suburban video game addiction, and Froggy – a noir thriller with interactive media design. The Nether won the 2012 Susan Smith Blackburn Prize.

Haley has worked with the Royal Court Theatre, Headlong, MCC, Sonia Friedman Productions, Woolly Mammoth, the Humana Festival of New Plays, The Banff Centre, Sundance Theatre Lab, O’Neill National Playwrights Conference, Lark Play Development Center, PlayPenn, and Page 73.
