Following its world premiere with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra in August 2023 and a sold-out national tour seen by more than 30,000 people, the live-to-screen cinematic event – The Man from Snowy River in Concert – will return to the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre for two encore performances on Saturday 3 August 2024.
The return to Melbourne of this acclaimed live music event offers audiences the last chance to experience the APRA and AFI award-winning score by legendary composer Bruce Rowland, played live by the MSO and masterfully conducted by Vanessa Scammell, alongside the stunning visuals of Director George Miller’s timeless Australian classic.
Stars of the film and concert, Sigrid Thornton and Tom Burlinson, will again join the festivities, sharing behind-the-scenes insights, personal experiences, and discussing the lasting impact of The Man from Snowy River.
Sigrid Thornton says she is thrilled to return with the MSO for the encore concerts. “The Man from Snowy River was a transformational experience for me and the opportunity to tour nationally with Australia’s leading orchestras performing the score live-to screen was a wonderful chance for us to connect with the film’s fans in person,” she said.
“I’m very proud to have been part of a film that has resonated across the generations, and to introduce new audiences to the classic tale depicted in AB ‘Banjo’ Paterson’s bush poem and captured so beautifully on the big screen.”
“The expansive beauty of Australia’s sunburnt country, a moving love story, and Bruce Rowland’s marvellous soundtrack played live by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, take The Man from Snowy River to yet another level of cinematic and musical excellence,” said Ms Thornton.
“The Man from Snowy River has proven to be an enduring Australian classic since it was first released in 1982. The heart-warming and uplifting responses from audiences to the live-to-screen national concert tour, shows how much the movie and its score remain a much-loved favourite across the country. I’m looking forward to returning to the stage with Sigrid and the MSO for two final performances,” said Tom Burlinson.
The encore performances of 2023’s landmark collaboration – The Man from Snowy River in Concert – are the final concerts in this highly successful national tour and provide audiences the opportunity to revisit the beloved Australian classic on the big screen, accompanied by the powerful and emotive soundtrack performed by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.
