Wyndham Cultural Centre, in partnership with Melbourne Writers’ Theatre, is proud to present The Green Room Project – a dynamic new initiative supporting emerging playwrights in Melbourne’s west.
Held at the newly refurbished Wyndham Cultural Centre, this inaugural and free immersive program has guided ten talented writers through the process of developing original short plays.
Over several months, participants have engaged in hands-on workshops, script development sessions, and collaborative rehearsals with professional actors. The program culminates in a Showcase Night on Friday 8 August 2025.
Audiences will be treated to a vibrant evening of theatre, featuring works by Welton B. Marsland, Benny Kee, Gwendolyn Sathiaseelan, Jade Park, Maria Griffin, Lee Otter, Julia Cornes, Kristie Gerolemou, Nayomi de Silva, and Tony Dass.
These writers have developed their plays from scratch, supported by experienced playwrights, facilitators, and industry professionals. The Green Room Project is designed to nurture creativity, foster collaboration, and connect emerging writers with the wider arts community.
According to Clare Mendes, Company Manager of Melbourne Writers’ Theatre and facilitator of this year’s inaugural program, The Green Room Project is a celebration of local writers and the stories they want to tell.
“We’re excited to showcase the works of some highly talented emerging playwrights, and we invite the wider community to come and enjoy the short plays they have written. From comedy to drama, history to mystery – an entertaining evening of storytelling is guaranteed,” says Mendes.
Reopening in July 2025 following a 12-month refurbishment, Wyndham Cultural Centre is a vibrant arts and entertainment hub in the heart of Werribee.
