The Gathering

vic-theatre-co-the-gatheringVic Theatre Company presents the first professional staging in Melbourne of The Gathering – a new work by Belinda Jenkin and William Hannagan at fortyfivedownstairs from 30 November 2016.

Tom is throwing a housewarming. He’s invited all his old favourites. Friends that now feel like strangers. The plan is to catch up, get wasted and stay up until dawn. Just like they used to. But this is not your typical party. How can it be when you’ve been on the run for five years? There are questions to be answered. Secrets to be spilled. Games to be played.

The Gathering as it lives now is a ground-breaking new Australian musical that tests the boundaries of our social norms we live and sometimes choose to fight,” says Director, Chris Parker. “From its years of rigorous changes, The Gathering has been developed into a controversial voice of the new generation.”

Five years in the making, The Gathering is a new musical by Will Hannagan and Belinda Jenkin. Fresh from a sold out workshop season at the New York Music Theatre Festival, it returns to Melbourne for an all too short season at fortyfivedownstairs, with the support of Arts Victoria and the Anna Sosenko Trust.

The Gathering is the future of Music Theatre in this country. Smart, Slick and Witty, it’s a new voice for the new generation,” says Producer, Glenn Ferguson.
