The Fiery Maze

Malthouse Theatre The Fiery MazeBringing together the music of internationally acclaimed musician Tim Finn and the poetry of the late, great writer Dorothy Porter, the Malthouse Theatre presents The Fiery Maze for a limited season from 20 August 2016.

Originally conceived by Porter and Finn in 1995 as a ‘rock concert album’, this collaboration of two incredible artists has finally found its way to the stage for an intimate performance of songs about love, sex and obsession. Each of Porter’s previously unpublished poems deals with the disillusions of love and lust, as well as the blinding moments of blazing connection.

Porter is known for the visceral power of her language; for crafting characters, scenarios and poems that crackle with sexual energy. Her journey into ‘love’s hopeless fiery maze’ is no exception. Finn performs onstage alongside Australian singer, songwriter and actress Abi Tucker. Together they conjure a wild world of yearning, paranoia and possession; a wanton labyrinth which maps the twists and turns of desire.

“We love music at Malthouse Theatre, we love Australian writers, and The Fiery Maze brings two undeniable greats together for a unique premiere,” said Matthew Lutton, Artistic Director.
