Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras announces Terese Casu as the new CEO

SGLMG CEO Terese CasuSydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras has announced Terese Casu will shortly join the organisation as the new Chief Executive Officer.

With a strong background in arts management, Terese comes to Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras from her previous position as Executive Director of Performance Space – an organisation that has worked closely with Mardi Gras for a number of years.

“Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras is a wonderfully diverse organisation that not only creates fantastic cultural events but is also a beacon for shining the light on issues in the LGBTQI community,” said Terese Casu. “I’m delighted to be joining the organisation and look forward to celebrating the LGBTQI identity and being a part of driving social change.”

Terese Casu comes with a diverse history as an arts leader, spanning over 25 years. Prior to her role as Executive Director of Performance Space, Terese was Director, Arts Organisations at the Australia Council for the Arts, and  General Manager of La Boite Theatre Company.

Terese has held senior management and leadership positions at the Bundanon Trust, ATYP, Belvoir Street, Circa, Sydney Film Festival and the Australian Film Commission. Between 1999 and 2002 Terese worked at the Australia Council in several roles within Policy, Market Development and Theatre.

“Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras are excited to welcome Terese to the organisation,” said Fran Bowron, SGLMG Board Co-Chair. “Terese is an extremely well regarded industry figure who brings not only her substantial expertise, but a great passion and shared vision for the organisation.”

The appointment comes off the back of a successful 2016 Mardi Gras season. Mardi Gras 2016 was a celebration of the vibrant LGBTQI community and saw 17 days jam-packed with over 120 events that crossed everything from in-depth discussion panels and forums, art exhibitions, sports competitions, world premiere theatre and special one-off performances and concerts.
