Straight

Straight Red StitchRed Stitch presents the Australian premiere of D.C Moore’s Straight – an outrageous romp that probes into the lives of a late twenty-something couple determined to prove that their relationship has become anything but stuffy and predictable.

Lewis and his wife Morgan are planning a family despite the impossibly small flat they share. However, when Lewis’ charismatic university friend Waldorf arrives to stay, doubts are sewn in Lewis’ mind about his readiness to settle down.

Making far too good use of the reluctantly offered sofa-?bed in the couple’s tiny apartment, Waldorf brings home an amateur porn star, drinks all the beer and disrupts their cosy, loved-?up lifestyle with tales of travel and an enviable and effortlessly cool demeanour.

A drunken dare and a camcorder takes the men’s friendship to a whole new level and presents a dilemma they never thought imaginable. You’ll never look at your best friend in the same way again.

Based on Lynn Shelton’s 2009 feature film Humpday, Straight is a play filled with sensitivity and uproarious one-liners. The characters test the murky boundaries of physical and emotional intimacy in an incredibly entertaining play about friendship, sex and the places in between.

D.C Moore was born in 1980 in Duston, Northamptonshire. He took part in the Royal Court’s Young Writer’s Programme and his first full length play Alaska was produced there in 2007. In 2008 Alaska was awarded the Tom Erhardt Award for promising new playwright by the Peggy Ramsey Foundation. Moore’s other plays include The Empire (2010), Honest (2010), Town (2010), The Swan (2011).

The Australian premiere of Straight will be directed by Dean Bryant and feature ensemble actors Ben Prendergast, Rosie Lockhart and Chrissy O’Neill with guest actor Ryan Gibson.
