ACTiv Elite Theatre Co. invites audiences to step into a powerful night of music, storytelling, and connection with Songs for a New World – a bold and beautiful reimagining of Jason Robert Brown’s groundbreaking musical at Qtopia Sydney for a limited season from 25 July 2025.
This production is a heartfelt celebration of identity, resilience, and the many ways we find courage in moments of change – by proving every story, every heartbreak, every hope and dream can belong to anyone.
Whether it’s the first step toward something new or the last thread of something familiar, these songs speak to the shared human experience – no matter who you are or who you love.
Featuring a phenomenal cast of performers including Georgia Laga’aia, Nicholas Reese, Anaiya Mahony, Luc Pierre Tannous, Mikayla Burnham and Oli Mc Gavock, Songs for a New World is helmed by director Ethan Malacaria, with musical direction by Nikolas Zielinski and choreography by Laurinda Priddle.

Jason Robert Brown is an acclaimed American composer, lyricist, and playwright, best known for his emotionally rich musicals and sophisticated musical style that blends pop, jazz, classical, and theatrical influences.
He made his professional debut with Songs for a New World (1995), a song cycle that showcased his distinctive voice and lyrical storytelling. He followed this success with Parade (1998), a historical musical that won him the Tony Award for Best Original Score.
His other notable works include The Last Five Years (2001), a cult favourite known for its nonlinear narrative; 13 (2007), a coming-of-age musical featuring an all-teen cast; and The Bridges of Madison County (2014), which earned him another Tony Award for Best Score.
