Right Now

RSAT Right Now - photo by Robert BlackburnAn exquisite portrayal of one woman’s crisis, Red Stitch Actors’ Theatre presents Catherine-Anne Toupin’s daring black comedy, Right Now in an Australian premiere from 21 April 2018.

As Alice and Ben adjust to life in their new flat, they a discover a surprising connection with Juliette, Giles and Francois from across the hall. A baby cries softly from another room. Realities begin to unravel and disquieting revelations are unearthed with a gradual descent into the sensual and the strange.

Written by award-winning Quebecois playwright Catherine-Anne Toupin (with a translation by Chris Campbell), Right Now is a play with a dark heart, a disquieting exploration of one woman’s crisis and darkest desires. It walks a delicate line between playful laughter and deep trauma, teasing and thrilling audiences from beginning to end.

Featuring Red Stitch ensemble members Christina O’Neill, Olga Makeeva, Joe Petruzzi, joined by guest actors Dushan Philips and Mark Wilson, Right Now is directed by Katy Maudlin, Red Stitch’s 2017 Graduate Director who has worked extensively across Australia, New Zealand and Europe.

Catherine-Anne Toupin graduated from The Conservatory of Dramatic Arts in Montreal in 1999. She has become a well-known actress in Quebec appearing in the popular television series, Unit 9 and Bright Memories. She has also written three full length and many other short plays, which have all been produced.

Toupin spends most of her time acting, both on stage and on screen while also working as a script editor for a television show she created, Boomerang. This year, she will appear in The Pack – her latest work for theatre.
