Lockdown has been a grim time for our nation’s entertainers. Since 20 March 2020, The IsoLate Late Show has been entertaining followers online via Friday night live streams on The Little Red Company’s Facebook page.
Last night at The Tivoli in Fortitude Valley, Brisbane, they successfully premiered their online production on stage. After six months of lockdown, it was absolutely, wonderfully divine to actually attend a live event again. The Tivoli is one of Brisbane’s most beautiful, glamorous Art Deco style venues. Even the Ladies’ powder room is just gorgeous!
Naomi Price hosted the show with sparkling enthusiasm. I recall being one of her fans when she made it to the semi-finals of The Voice back in 2015. Her partner, Luke Kennedy, who was runner up in season two was also one of the performers. Both Naomi and Luke have gone on to have successful singing careers.
The performance featured Queensland’s chamber orchestra, Camerata who are in residence at QPAC. It’s always a pleasure to see their outstanding lead violinist, Brendan Joyce in action on his instrument.
The string orchestra were simultaneously on stage with a cool dudes four-piece rock band. It was a welcome revisit to the best of both worlds in these ‘unprecedented times’ which have devastated the Arts sector.
With our state borders closed, the annual Brisbane Festival is a ghost of its former self. It was both a pleasure and a privilege to attend the event for a great evening of much missed, live entertainment.
