Plenty of Fish in the Sea

Plenty of Fish in the Sea photo by Geoff MageeA darkly humorous and physically adventurous fable about finding the perfect catch, Clockfire Theatre presents Plenty of Fish in the Sea at the New Theatre (touring hub), as part of The Sydney Fringe, from 17 September 2024.

A castaway is saved from the surging seas. Conversation is sparse and in his temporary lodgings, he comes face to face with a startling kind of hook-up culture. A fantastical and absurdist fable that begins as a story of rescue and becomes an unsettling dissection of dreams and desire.

Plenty of Fish in the Sea is inspired by our lived experience grappling with dating apps and hook-up culture the theatrical world wildly spins a different kind of net that has us caught – hook, line, and sinker!

Conceived and directed by Emily Ayoub and Madeline Baghurst, Plenty of Fish in the Sea won an Adelaide Fringe Award (2024), House of Oz Purse Prize and was shortlisted for the SOHO International Encore Series.

At the 2023 Sydney Fringe’s Made in Sydney program it garnered three awards: Best in Theatre, Best Physical Theatre and the Festival Directors Prize. It has just returned from a month long season at the 2024 Edinburgh Fringe.

“If you’re after a Fringe experience that’s a sharp turn away from the mainstream, Plenty of Fish in the Sea is the show for you.”InReview
