Playwriting Australia looks to the future with release of Review Paper

Playwriting AARFollowing a period of internal transition and consultation with playwrights around the country, the Board of Playwriting Australia (PWA) has commissioned a Review Consultation Paper to consider the most effective and sustainable model of supporting play development that also offers a pathway for writers to see their work through to production and support playwrights in their career development, and to help guide PWA as it makes decisions about its future.

The Review is be conducted by independent consultant, Richard Evans & Associates, and invites written submissions from all parts of the sector encompassing both urban, regional and remote Australia. In particular, submissions are encouraged from playwrights, the broader theatre sector and underrepresented voices within the sector including First Nations writers, culturally and linguistically diverse writers and writers living experiencing disability.

PWA is continuing to operate and is delivering the remainder of its 2019 program which includes The Lost Plays Program, This Is How We Do It Podcast Program, Duologue and Post Production. So far this year, the organisation has delivered a significant amount of work in support of new play and playwright development, including the final stage of Lotus Asian Australian Playwrights Program and the First Nations Playwrights Retreat.

PWA’s former General Manager Michelle Kotevski has been contracted in a re-oriented role to ensure the program and the organisation’s responsibilities are seamlessly delivered.
