PersonaDuring a performance of Elektra, an actress falls silent and subsequently refuses to speak. The nurse assigned to her recovery takes her to a remote seaside cottage to rest and recuperate.

But what should be a safe haven of convalescence quickly transforms into a space of terror and isolation. As patient and nurse grow increasingly close, the actress quickly discovers that the bounds of her identity are dangerously unstable.

Directed by Adena Jacobs, a rising talent of the Australian theatre scene, this adaptation of Ingmar Bergman’s iconic film opened to universal acclaim in 2012.

Now in 2013, the Malthouse Theatre rekindles the flame that flickers at the heart of this quietly devastating work. A nightmarish poem about intimacy and identity.

Persona was conceived by Adena Jacobs, Dayna Morrissey & Danny Pettingill and features Alex de Vos, Julian Mineo, Meredith Penman, Daniel Schlusser and Karen Sibbing.
