In a world where everything and everyone has a price, how do we value a story that truly matters? An ordinary assignment. A reasonable fee. In the van across the road, Dave calmly waits for his target. But this will not be like the others. This one will bite back. Hard.
Following the last days in the life of a surveillance photographer as he is forced to confront the damage his work has done, P.O.V. Dave explores the media’s increasingly destructive appetite for scandal. While those the media has damaged are often well known, who are the people so willing to do its bidding?
P.O.V. Dave looks to the other side of the lens, to the moral compromises such work inevitably requires, and the damage it inflicts on this who undertake it. Combining live performance with video and sound design, the production will be a bold, imaginative and confronting exploration of the media’s corrupting power, and the redemptive nature of storytelling.
The play showcases an experienced and talented team. Written by Noel Maloney, directed by Beng Oh and designed by Christina Logan-Bell, P.O.V Dave brings together a fine ensemble cast including Keith Brockett, Eleanor Howlett, Jude Katsianis, Annie Lumsden, Gabriel Partington and Peter Stratford.
Noel Maloney is a playwright, screenwriter and teacher. He manages the screenwriter program at RMIT. 15 Minutes from Anywhere is an artistic collaboration between director Beng Oh and writer Jane Miller. They create new Australian works, as well as explore the lesser known and interesting parts of the repertoire. Previous productions include the Green Room nominated production of The Yellow Wave, True Love Travels on a Gravel Road, Mein Kampf, Motherf***er and Cuckoo.
