Out Cast Theatre returns to the Melbourne stage with Ruff Trade

Out Cast Theatre Ruff Trade photo by Darren Gill and Steven DawsonFresh from record-breaking sell-out seasons in Edinburgh, Brighton UK Fringe and the International Dublin Gay Theatre Festival, Australia’s longest-running LGBTI+ theatre company, Out Cast Theatre finally returns to the Melbourne stage with Ruff Trade at The Motley Bauhaus this January.

Two Elizabethan sex workers find themselves in over their heads, mired in revenge, murderous intrigue, romance and their imagined part in the untimely death of famous playwright Christopher Marlowe. But not all is as it seems.

Ribald, raunchy and bloody. Not for the faint-hearted and definitely NOT historically accurate, Ruff Trade is a brand-spanking new dark comedy from Steven Dawson – a randy romp combined with a bit of olde world filth.

Steven Dawson is the writer of 60 produced plays. His works includes sell-out seasons of The Importance of Being Earnest as Performed by Three F*cking Queens and a Duck, The Adventures of Butt Boy & Tigger, Monstrous Acts, Distinguished Gentlemen and Jane Austen’s Guide to Pornography. His work has been seen in the UK, Ireland, USA and across Australia.
