Our Seventh String

After seven years apart, six old friends and one newcomer reunite in the Melbourne share house they once called home, a place where they made music together and dreamed of their artistic futures.

Now, as memories resurface among dust sheets, packed boxes and an old piano from Berlin, old flames reignite and buried tensions refuse to stay hidden, with the ties that once bound them beginning to unravel.

Presented by Paperfolk Theatre, this original Australian musical features a live folk score performed by actor-musicians and marks an international collaboration between emerging Australian and UK-based creatives.

Through music-led storytelling, Our Seventh String explores nostalgia, growth and how time shapes us. With book by Lauren Green and music and lyrics by Emily Napolitano, Henry Smith and Lauren Green, it is a story of friendship that asks who gets to keep creating, and what it costs the people left behind.

Directed by Lauren Green, with musical direction by Emily Napolitano and Henry Smith, the cast includes Miriam Ellins, Harper Elwyn, Jesse Anderson, Alecia Joanne Scott, Nano Muna, Milo Pennefather and Andrew Vassett.

Our Seventh String is the debut production for Paperfolk Theatre – a new independent theatre company founded by Lauren Green, Abby Brooks and Ruth Maley, championing emerging artists and creating bold, original, folk-inspired work.
