Artists are invited to make their mark on one of Brisbane’s most significant new public destinations as Dexus’s Waterfront Brisbane opens Expressions of Interest (EOI) for Art Opportunity 3: The Lawn – an interactive, sculptural installation series forming part of the precinct’s permanent public art collection.
This is one of three major public art commissions being delivered as part of the $2.5 billion Waterfront Brisbane development, a city-shaping transformation by Dexus that will redefine the river edge of Brisbane’s CBD.
Scheduled for completion in 2028, the precinct will include two new premium office towers, a revitalised riverwalk, 1ha of public realm, including retail, dining, and cultural offerings, plus an ambitious public art program celebrating Brisbane’s identity, stories, and creative future.
Art Opportunity 3: The Lawn will see a curated collection of smaller-scale, interactive sculptures positioned along the river’s edge, designed to invite play, pause, and engage the community. The artworks will be installed in a high-traffic, high-visibility open lawn; a major public gathering place and event space at the heart of the precinct.
“Waterfront Brisbane is a vibrant destination that maximises its prime riverside location with enhanced open spaces, amenity and a revitalised waterfront dining hub for all of Brisbane. This opportunity invites artists to help shape that experience and leave a lasting legacy,” said Matthew Beasley, Waterfront Brisbane Project Director.
Chairman of the Brisbane Economic Development Agency and Chair of the Public Art Committee, Paul Spiro, said Dexus has assembled a diverse and talented art panel to work alongside their art consultants in developing a world-class art precinct as part of the transformative Waterfront Brisbane project.
“I am honoured to chair this panel and am confident that the rigorous methodology employed by the Dexus team will result in an exceptional public art component for Brisbane, enhancing our connection to both the river and First Nations peoples,” said Paul Spiro.
“The Lawn presents a unique chance for artists to create works that are both imaginative and inclusive — designed for discovery, interaction, and meaningful connection to place,” said Bill Dimas, Curator and Public Art Consultant.
The opportunity is open to local, national, and international artists at all career stages. Artists are encouraged to submit concepts that reflect the site’s cultural, environmental, and historical layers, and demonstrate strong suitability for outdoor public engagement and long-term maintenance.
This is an outstanding opportunity to contribute to the cultural legacy of one of Australia’s most exciting urban transformations.
