On the Couch with William Zappa

William Zappa - photo by Hugh HamiltonWho is William Zappa?
I’m still trying to work that out, but essentially, an actor, writer, director and a lover of our remarkable planet.

What would you do differently to what you do now?
I would try and be a little more courageous in expressing my concerns.

Who inspires you and why?
My wife/partner, Leigh because she is one of the most compassionate people I know. And Homer (or whoever the Poet was) because of his compassion and storytelling skill.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
See number 2!

Favourite holiday destination and why?
Greece, because of my family, because it is stunningly beautiful and because I think the Greeks can embody a lot of … see number 9!

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
The Manly ferry. You get to see the Bridge, the Opera House and the Harbour and on a stormy day you ride some big waves coming through the Heads before the ferry is cancelled.

What are you currently reading?
The Iliad and not much else. Oh, and some poetry by David Malouf and Barry Hill.

What are you currently listening to?
Martha Wainwright and Cecilia Bartoli. And, Up Town Funk – as I watch yet again the ‘Old Movie Stars Dance to Up Town Funk on YouTube.

Happiness is?
Not worrying!

What does the future hold for you?
Trying not to worry.

William stars in the Sydney Festival presentation of The Iliad at the Belvoir St Theatre this January. For more information, visit: www.sydneyfestival.org.au for details.
