On the Couch with Wayne Tunks

CopyrightWho is Wayne Tunks?
I’m a Melbourne based writer, director, actor, producer who is originally from Sydney. I’m also a home baker and TV addict, I rarely have time for either at the moment, but I love when I have the time to do both at once.

What would you do differently to what you do now?
I would probably make more money from art! It’s a hard slog, but then again, if it was easy, everyone would do it.

Who inspires you and why?
Considering my 2014 Midsumma (La Mama) and Mardi Gras (Old Fitzroy) show is called, Everything I Know I Learnt From Madonna, it’s a pretty safe bet to say Madonna. If you want to know why she inspires me, maybe you should come see the autobiographical show!

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
I think we all can do things day to day, be a better person and encourage others to be too. And if they can’t, point out why they’re being an arse. Plus, indicate while in the car, seriously people, it’s the law!

Favourite holiday destination and why?
I love to head back to Sydney and stay with my folks out in glamorous Blacktown. I miss my hometown living in Melbourne now.

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take then to, and why?
Well if one of my shows is on, clearly that! But I do love exploring all the amazing cafés and eateries Melbourne has to offer.

What are you currently reading?
I’m reading Tina Arena’s autobiography. Been loving autobiographies lately, I find them inspiring and good for a sticky beak.

What are you currently listening to?
There’s always Madonna, but also loving new albums from Tina Arena, Sheryl Crow and Sara Bareilles.

Happiness is?
A full, appreciative house, let’s make that season. And on the other side, a table of my baked goods being enjoyed by friends. Or a day with those I love.

What does the future hold for you?
I’m very excited for next year. My autobiographical one man show, Everything I Know I Learnt From Madonna opens at La Mama for Midsumma in January and the Old Fitz for Mardi Gras in February. Then I hope to tour to other states during the year too. Very excited for people to see this very personal show!
