On the Couch with Virginia Trioli

ABC-Melbourne-Virginia-TrioliWho is Virginia Trioli?
I am a radio broadcaster, TV anchor, writer and columnist with The ABC

What would you do differently from what you do now?
If I had my time over again I would still be doing a lot of what I’m doing now – but maybe I’d also try and be an animator for DreamWorks as well … how much fun would it be to make dragons fly?

Who inspires you and why?
So many members of my ABC Radio Melbourne audience who call in with their wonderfully human stories of joy and sorrow and hilarity and triumph. I just love them.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
I would ensure that nothing – nothing – gets wasted. When you see all that we have made and built and grown over the millennia, and all of it dragged out of the incredible resources of this planet – every metal pole, every bit of concrete, every piece of steel – I would make sure we keep using it all and would never waste a scrap.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
Bermagui on the south coast of NSW – it’s what I imagine the Garden of Eden was.

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
A walk or run around the Tan, then lunch across the road from the Botanic Gardens and then another walk home through the gardens past the camellias and the Oak Lawn

What are you currently reading?
Wifedom by Anna Funder. It’s just brilliant.

What are you currently listening to?
Still listening to Jessie Ware’s last album, That! Feels Good! I’m interviewing her in November.

Happiness is?
Bobbing in the water in the last of the late summer light on a beautiful Australian beach somewhere.

What does the future hold for you?
I feel like the next decade is going to be fantastic: I have so many wonderful stories to tell!
