Travis Khan AAR On the CouchWho is Travis Khan?
Travis Khan is originally from New Zealand but has lived in Australia since 2004. Travis has developed an extensive list of credits in musical theatre, fashion, corporate, commercial and television events. Travis is currently performing in the Australian tour of Chicago the musical.

What would you do differently to what you do now?
If I wasn’t working in musical theatre and performing on stage I would still be doing something that is creative and that gives me the same satisfaction that performing onstage does for me. Working in events, teaching dance, choreographing.

Who inspires you and why?
I am inspired by artists of all kinds. Predominately those in musical theatre, and theatre but also dancers, musicians, painters, sculptors. I love people who are creative and their love and passion for what they do really inspires me and makes me want to creatively be better and try new and exciting things and to always strive for more.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
I would love to make the world more harmonious and I wish that people who have more of an appreciation for what is around them. I wish we were able to control global warming. More love in the world and less hate.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
NYC in summer. It is the city that is just full of so much that I love. The pace, the culture, the arts and performing scene, Broadway and the vibe. The city is just so vibrant and full of life during this season.

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
Melbourne is a tourist dream. I like to immerse friends in the Melbourne culture. Great coffee, food in the city laneways, a walk along the Yarra at night, drinks on one of the floating bars – Ponyfish Island or Arbory Afloat, seeing some live theatre, gelato in St Kilda and a stroll along the pier in St Kilda.

What are you currently reading?
Fossé – a biography by Sam Wasson. Very appropriate being involved in Chicago the musical, but I am very inspired by the life of the legend that is Bob Fossé.

What are you currently listening to?
I listen to a very broad range of music. Currently I seem to be listening on iTunes to essential playlists of various artists. It seems to be listings of their greatest hits. So I enjoy this for walking to and from work, or training at the gym or just music playing in the background.

Happiness is?
Happiness to me is laughter and the elimination of time. When you can be surrounded by friends or loved ones and not having to be anywhere at a certain time and allowing yourself to be in the moment and enjoying one’s company through laughter. Summer is also happiness to me. A season where I believe it brings out the best in people. Good weather tends to leave people in a better mood. Good food and good wine always makes me happy!

What does the future hold for you?
The future at this time is a little unknown but what I can say is that I will always be sure to surround myself with likeminded individuals and people that enrich my life. The future is about working hard and I know there will be another exiting adventure or show that will come.

Travis is currently performing in Chicago the musical – which is playing at Brisbane’s Lyric Theatre – QPAC until 7 December, before heading to the State Theatre – Arts Centre Melbourne from 14 December 2019. For more information, visit: www.chicagothemusical.com.au for details.
