Who is Tim Wright?
He’s this guy who grew up in a country town in Western Australia and chased his dreams around the world before he ended up performing on Broadway and now, back in Australia. He’s a father to 2 amazing boys. Husband to a wonderful woman, who is far too good for him. He’s a friend to many fantastic people in multiple countries. He’s a very, very lucky man.
What would you do differently from what you do now?
I would try to be less afraid. Or maybe to embrace my fears. Fear of failure is such a terrible inhibitor and I think if I could change anything it would be to recognize the things I’m afraid of and work to get un-afraid of them. In the past if there was something I thought I was no good at I would just try to avoid it. I think the better option is to acknowledge that and then work to get better at it.
Who inspires you and why?
My friends, my family. My kids inspire me to be a better version of myself. I’m acutely aware of my responsibility, as a parent, to raise my boys to be good men, good people. I’m proud of them already, they have good hearts, they’re kind.
What would you do to make a difference in the world?
That’s a big question. Technology is a wonderful thing – a lot of the time. But… I feel it has lead to a constant struggle to stay present and to engage. I think I’d probably get rid of social media, for starters. And I’d get rid of guns in America.
Favourite holiday destination and why?
I don’t have a favourite destination. It could be anywhere that has nice weather and a pool, or terrible weather and a nice warm place to gather. It’s all about the people, for me. I just want to go where I can be with the family and friends that I love.
When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
I’m not big on attractions either. When I lived in New York it was Times Square – for the lights and the wow factor…the uniqueness of it. And take them to a show on Broadway. Now I’m living in Geelong I would just want to take them somewhere we could get great food and good wine, or even just back to my place for a bbq with my family.
What are you currently reading?
Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone – with my youngest son. It’s that or Dog Man, or Captain Underpants. I don’t read a lot, for myself.
What are you currently listening to?
Whatever my wife puts on. I’ve been hearing ABBA everywhere since I started working on Mamma Mia, but I generally just listen to the radio. I love Ed Sheeran, Crowded House, Taylor Swift and John Farnham. If I was Ursula the Sea-Witch I would totally steal Farnsey’s voice. He is the greatest.
Happiness is?
Fish and Chips and a glass of white wine, with my wife and my boys (the boys drink Sodastream). Spending time with the people I love. It’s also being on-stage and sharing a connection with a packed house of excited theatre-goers.
