On the Couch with Tim Paige

AAR Tim Paige On the CouchWho is Tim Paige?
Dad, husband, laugh seeker, tea drinker, drink clinker!

What would you do differently from what you do now?
This may be a curve ball, but I would have LOVED to have been a professional sprinter. I love running. In short bursts. Other than that, my favourites to date, outside of the performance sector, have been working in a juice bar and working in pubs… I also reckon being a tour guide would be unreal; especially on a bus, where you have a literal captive audience.

Who inspires you and why?
My family and friends, to be honest. I look to them for guidance, strength and inspiration, regularly.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
I think I’d make it compulsory for each adult to do a week of volunteer work a year. The more we can see life from other people’s shoes, the better, I reckon.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
Two-part answer. Tassie (home state), to see friends and family. Ireland, to see friends and family, with better accents.

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
Being a Footscray local, I always run with West is Best. A microbrewery, a film at the beautiful Art Deco, Sun Cinema in Yarraville, and a bành mi… but I can’t tell you which shop, coz the lines are already crazy… it is on a corner in Footers… if you know, you know!

What are you currently reading?
Timon of Athens by Shakespeare and First Year by Kristina Ross. Timon is a misunderstood, sleeper hit by Will and as is often the case with his work, probably more relevant now than ever. First Year was essential reading for me as it’s written by a former class member of mine from a certain Victorian Academy. It was just like being back there… I had a scotch or two whilst reading.

What are you currently listening to?
Renee Geyer, Donny Hathaway and The California Honeydrops.

Happiness is?
Opening the door at the end of the day and hearing my boy, Otis, say ‘Dadda, DADDA!’. Then watching him smile and run into my arms. Or taking him to the ‘bus zoo (Werribee)’ on a day off. Also a TRASH Christmas movie with my wife… like, the worse the better.

What does the future hold for you?
More of the same, I hope. I feel beyond lucky that I can direct a Shakespeare and then in the next month be on stage as the man with the bag.

Tim stars as Santa in A Very Naughty Christmas – which will be presented at The Alex Theatre, St Kilda from 5 – 15 December 2024. Tickets available here!
