Who is the Tuck Shop Ladies?
The Tuck Shop Ladies? It’s Sam Lohs and Rosie Burgess. We’ve been travelling through the world together for the last 16 years, playing music, bringing up a kid, mediating between a dog and a cat who can’t be in the same room, and trying to make sense of this crazy crazy world.
What would you do differently from what you do now?
Fight less… Seriously, we’re not very good at avoiding conflict. We’re always jealous of those couples who are so conflict avoidant they never fight. We can just look at a banana and we could start fighting. Making up is good though.
Who inspires you and why?
We’re both inspired by dogs because they’re very good at being in the present moment and seem very unconditional.
What would you do to make a difference in the world?
Bring joy. Facilitate connection. Ban guns.
Favourite holiday destination and why?
Anywhere. If it’s a holiday, we’re IN! We just went to the Galapagos with Rosie’s family and it was absolutely incredible, but honestly, if you said we could take a holiday in Dandenong, we’d be packing our bags with just as much gusto.
When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
Always to our house, to meet our dog. Everything else will pale in comparison…
What are you currently reading?
Sam is reading a book about birds and Rosie is reading a book about the stock market.
What are you currently listening to?
Sam’s listening to The Mae’s new album and Rosie is listening to a murder mystery.
Happiness is?
Doing what you love with the person that you love.
What does the future hold for you?
We’re hoping to meet Hugh Grant. We were supposed to apply for a grant, and instead of trying to get the grant we decided we would try to “get” Hugh Grant (and wrote a song about it). It just sounded more fun. So hopefully we’ll be sitting down for a cup of tea with him sometime in the future.
