Who is Sven Ratzke?
Who is? Me? You mean Sven Ratzke. Oh he’s weird and funky, but in a good way. I’m a high voltage cabaret/theatre performer with a wide range of personas, with glamourous costumes and an amazing band. Full of personality that I put into my shows, naughty, kind, swinging and touching, all moods will get you and give a totally unique experience. I like to tell stories, improvise and go on a ‘Ratzke trip’.
What would you do differently to what you do now?
You mean, what would I do if I wouldn’t be an artist? Well, I would be a director. Or do you mean, what would I do differently if I were young again? In which case, excuse me!? I am young!
Who inspires you and why?
Artists that are doing their thing, that are unique and provoke change in world in their own way, like Bowie. I think its the most important thing, to reinvent yourself constantly.
What would you do to make a difference in the world?
Save all of the little animals in the world, get a big, big farm and bring them there where they can all run around and be friends and let my band take care of them.
Favourite holiday destination and why?
New York, because its so sexy, full of energy, interesting and constantly changing.
When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
I don’t tell them where we’re going and take them to the red light district. I just drop them there and pick them up a couple of hours later. Because, why not?
What are you currently reading?
At the moment I’m reading Angelica Houston’s biography. She’s such an incredible and fascinating woman.
What are you currently listening to?
Right now, I’m listening to my own record for Homme Fatale because I just got the test vinyl and have to approve it.
Happiness is?
Sitting in the sun in the afternoon with a wine on my left and a loved one on the right.
What does the future hold for you?
So many exciting things. First touring my show Homme Fatale around the world, for example in NYC and Edinburgh and then a crazy jungle vacation.
Sven presents Starman at Arts Centre Melbourne on Thursday 14 June, and Home of the Arts Gold Coast on Friday 15 June, before heading to the Adelaide Cabaret Festival with Homme Fatale: 21 – 23 June 2018. For more information, visit: www.sven-ratzke.com for details.
