Who is Suzy Eddie Izzard?
An actor, comedian, activist and marathon runner.
What would you do differently from what you do now?
Nothing! Sounds a bit glib, but I’ve thought very carefully about how to move my career forward and so there is nothing I believe I would do differently.
Who inspires you and why?
Nelson Mandela who although he lived 27 years in prison, lived a life of leadership, vision and great fortitude. David Bowie for creating such a fantastic treasure of timeless music and pushing hard during his career to constantly be a challenging artist. Hedy Lamarr who became a Hollywood movie star but also an invented a communication system in 1942 that became the groundwork for Bluetooth, WiFi and the GPS system.
What would do to make a difference in the world?
I don’t think there is a classic ‘Meaning of Life’, but some people put meaning into life and some people take it out of life. I would continue trying to put meaning into life.
Favourite holiday destination and why?
Paris because it is beautiful, inspiring, encourages creativity and is timeless.
When friends come to town, what local attraction would you take them to and why?
Depends where I am, but I love city parks. For example – Central Park in New York, Hyde Park in London, Hollywood Bowl (yes it’s a park) in Los Angeles and Jardin des Tuileries in Paris. They are all fantastic places in great cities to get away from it all!
What are you currently reading?
David Robinson’s biography of Charlie Chaplin.
What are you currently listening to?
Parallel Lines by Blondie.
Happiness is?
Watching black and white movies.
What does the future hold for you?
Same old, same old – touring Hamlet throughout Australia and then on in the future through as many countries around the world that I can.
Eddie will present their acclaimed one-person performance of Shakespeare’s The Tragedy of Hamlet at Sydney Opera House (9 – 21 June), Brisbane Powerhouse (24 – 27 June), Arts Centre Melbourne (30 June – 12 July), Heath Ledger Theatre, Perth (27 – 28 July) and Canberra Theatre Centre (31 July – 2 August).
