Who is Susan-ann Walker?
A frugal hedonist, eternally annoying optimist with a dash of realism, singer / actor / musician /smart mover and mother. I also paint, write, produce and whimsically potter around my retro Hawaiian townhouse in Bayside Melbourne.
What would you do differently to what you do now?
Not much. Maybe really love exercise, like actually enjoy it, but truthfully a bath and a book just wins!
Who inspires you and why?
So many people – people who keep going after truly awful things happen. Kindness inspires me daily. My mum and dad, who are not here now, but gave me such a well grounded childhood. I truly didn’t realise how lucky, and unusual that is till recently.
My children, both now teenagers – my daughter Lily for her strength and inner beauty, and my son Tommy for his kindness and never ending comedy. Iris Apfel – a fab 97 year old fashion icon who is a walking art piece daily – love her!
What would you do to make a difference in the world?
I would love all children to have access to music and theatre, and for them to feel safe and loved in their lives. I think the arts really help everyone.
Favourite holiday destination and why?
I have so many. I love London and Kent because my dear brother lives there (going for Christmas!). Seminyak, Bali for the ease, gorgeous people and food. Queenscliff to hang with dear friends.
When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
Great Ocean Road – divine. Yarra Valley – divine. Mornington Peninsula – divine. Queenscliff… ditto
What are you currently reading?
I just finished A Life in Parts – Brian Cranston’s autobiography – loved it. I have been recommending it to students all week.
What are you currently listening to?
George Michael – anything by him, love him. Beatles’ White Album, Disco when I need to pep.
Happiness is?
Baths, tea, friends, music, sunshine, animals, laughter, travel…
What does the future hold for you?
Lots of writing and everything above!! And Tom Lehrer – crazy fab repertoire that it is!
