Who is Shirong Wu?
Shirong Wu is an actor whose work spans theatre, film and television. Her stage credits include White Pearl, Miss Peony, Cursed!, A Fool in Love, 4000 Miles, Things Hidden Since the Foundation of the World and Werkaholics.
What would you do differently from what you do now?
I would work in the plant section of Bunnings Warehouse. Or any florist or plant store actually, it doesn’t have to be Bunnings. Or if I was braver, I like the idea of being a secondary school teacher. Basically I am interested in growing minds and cultivating life. But I am very sensitive and cry a lot so would maybe be eaten alive in a secondary school.
Who inspires you and why?
The founders of the Free Gaza Circus, Mohammad Khader and Yusef Khader. How courageous it is to try and make people laugh and feel magic in the midst of such grief and destruction.
What would you do to make a difference in the world?
Instead of projecting this question into the future where it remains a distant fantasy, it is better for me to focus on what I can do every day to make the world a better place. I try to treat every person with respect and kindness including myself.
I do my civic duties as a member of this democracy aiming to create a equitable society. I donate a portion of my wages to the world. I avoid throwing my batteries in the trash. I try to stand up for people and animals when they are being treated unfairly
Favourite holiday destination and why?
Thailand because I like the language and Thai people have the best sense of humour. Every person I meet has amazing timing and a ‘yes and’ attitude.
When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
Palace Central Park Mall Cinema Row B because you can recline. And Camp Cove Beach.
What are you currently reading?
The Grace of Kings by Ken Liu. I love epic fantasy
What are you currently listening to?
The sound of dogs playing in the dog park below the apartment. What bliss!
Happiness is?
When all the versions of yourself are able to peacefully co-exist. Also when you do something nice for someone else. Happiness is best shared!
What does the future hold for you?
I want to be in a Hong Sang-soo film and have a slow push in extreme close up. On Saturday I will go to the dentist for my half yearly clean. I have been working on handstands so hopefully this time next year I will be able to do one.
