On the Couch with Sarah Ward

SWP23-Sarah-WardWho is Sarah Ward?
Queer, rebel, nipple liberator, Aunty, tree hugger and sonic alchemist.

What would you do differently from what you do now?
See my friends more, eat less sugar, walk more, relax more, read more. Paint on huge big canvases and pretend I’m amazing.

Who inspires you and why?
People who balance work and life. After all, we call it a life, not a labour.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
The only thing I know how to do, teach and make radical, playful art.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
Madrid to play ‘cause they party at night and sleep in the day, the art is wonderful and the people are wild. East Coast of Australia to relax ‘cause water calms me and the beach always gives me perspective.

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
I walk them around Footscray. It’s Melbourne’s equivalent to London’s Hackney. Delicious food from all around the world, amazing Ethiopian feasts, bubble tea, Filipino ice-cream and beautiful little bespoke business’s.

What are you currently reading?
Woman, Eating by Claire Kohda. I’m a big fan of Japanese fiction.

What are you currently listening to?
I have fallen in love with CHAI and also the Eurovision songs are going round in my head. I’m obsessed with In Corpore Sano’s Konstruckta.

Happiness is?
A privilege. And for me that’s all the C words, one of which I can’t include but the rest are a cuddle, cake, a cat, a comfy bed and somewhere safe to call me casa.

What does the future hold for you?
More years of therapy.
