On the Couch with Sarah Barzel

Sarah Barzel AAR On the CouchWho is Sarah Barzel?
A woman of surprises, currently a presenter and interviewer at 3MBS. Previously I have been involved in teaching and lecturing locally and internationally as well as working in the Not for Profit sector.

What would you do differently to what you do now?
Fortunately, I have traveled many roads to get to where I am now and enjoyed the opportunities afforded me. I have been involved in many different community programs which have enabled me to get to where I am today doing what I love. Therefore I am happy to say I wouldn’t change a thing.

Who inspires you and why?
Turia Pitt is an extraordinary woman who epitomizes resilience and positivity, despite everything she has endured. She is the pin up girl for her passion for humanitarian work and has gone on to show that one can triumph despite adversity.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
Make a difference in the world one person at a time. I believe that if you can change one person’s life you have changed the world. The ripple effect of good is all encompassing and empowering. As a volunteer conducting fundraising education projects in Vietnam, I have seen how people have gone on to make a difference in their local communities to benefit all.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
Sapa Hills, Vietnam – It was the last holiday where my husband and boys laughed till we cried. It was a trek on foot through villages where laughter was the only coin needed to communicate and where human interaction was at its purest.

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
I love going to Ricketts Sanctuary. It is Australia in a nutshell. The flora, fauna and sculptures capture the essence of this great country.

What are you currently reading?
An Ordinary Day by Leigh Sales. Everyone should read this book.

What are you currently listening to?
3MBS Fine Music Melbourne. And as much Beethoven or Dvorak as possible.

Happiness is?
Being alive, healthy and able to share fun times with family and friends, listening to Beethoven. (I am a Beethoven tragic).

What does the future hold for you?
Who knows? I’m enjoying the ride and looking forward to the next adventure.

Sarah is a presenter at 3MBS – who will be presenting the Dvorak Marathon at the Melbourne Recital Centre on Sunday 24 February 2019. For more information, visit: www.3mbs.org.au or www.melbournerecital.com.au for details.
