On the Couch with Samuel Thompson

A 25-year-old man by day woman by night. I was born in Gladstone (QLD), and have lived in Melbourne for the past 6 years. I’m a music theatre graduate from Federation University 2015.

What would you do differently from what you do now?
Honestly nothing, apart from staying in bloody dance and piano classes. Quit my day job, I’d love to be in the arts full time. Sometimes being a drag queen can be mentally draining but the chance to connect / entertain people really gives me a kick.

Who inspires you and why?
Danny La Rue, Courtney Act, RuPaul – performers who are breaking the mould are killing it in the professional world in drag.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
I’d like to give people the confidence to be who they are freely.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
New York City. It’s honestly the city that never sleeps. It reminds me of how many people are out there slogging away at their dreams. But I’d also say going back to my parents on the Sunshine Coast. Just being by the beach and sun is always an energy recharger and a relaxing time.

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
Revs. Just kidding. Half Moon Bay, because it’s the nicest, closest beach to the CBD. Also bar hopping along chapel street.

What are you currently reading?
My script!!

What are you currently listening to?
Courtney Act and Vanity’s Podcast, Brenda call me.

Happiness is?
Ask Alexis Jordan. Joking haha – happiness is allowing yourself to be grateful for the small things in life.

What does the future hold for you?
Plenty more drag gigs. I’m currently working on a cabaret to put my singing to use. The dream is to make it onto Drag Race Down Under and travel performing.
