On the Couch with Sabrina Dowling Giudici

Sabrina Dowling Giudici photo by Anton BlumeWho is Sabrina Dowling Giudici?
A bush girl from the most Western part of the island of Australia. Not sure what else to say as it is not something I think about. But this is an Art page so the arty thing I can say is that I am a glass artisan and I use my work to tell stories about the habitats in the Gascoyne region of Western Australia. Gosh, I love working with glass.

What would you do differently from what you do now?
Nix. Maybe try harder at finding a Tai Chi instructor nearby.

Who inspires you and why?
Nudibranchs, marine algae, rocks, gum leaves, cosmic gas clouds, diatoms; watching Bonni paint, remembering watching Uncle Jimmy RIP carve, watching Mamma cut and sew, listening to Papa’ whistle while laying bricks, rocking babies asleep, especially mine. Thinking about how Francis of Assisi lived and what Hildegard of Bingen wrote and wrote and wrote. Being thrilled by creation and immersed in it, consciously.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
Maybe that’s a bit of hubris?

Favourite holiday destination and why?
Sonnino, Italy. My ancestral town. I was lucky enough to live with my Nonna and family, in the west wing of the old castle, when I was a teen. I can feel the land and cobble stones sing out to me.

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
The Carnarvon Jetty, even though it was blown away in Cyclone Seroja; the mangrove boardwalk is still fab. The length and breadth of Shark Bay really. Spectacular land and seascapes. The reality though, is we just keep heading up to Gnaraloo Station, the southern end of the Ningaloo Reef.

What are you currently reading?
Back to the future; contemplating how our academic and public discourses and yarning times can return to a wider view or consideration of factors affecting our lives, especially from a conservation viewpoint. So, I’m reading Knowing Creation: Perspectives from Theology, Philosophy, and Science. Being genuinely interdisciplinary is my quest. So, reading authors in this field is like having oxygen really.

What are you currently listening to?
The radio. Every CD and record player in my family is broken. Vivaldi is my go-to. Miss him very much.

Happiness is?
Peace.

What does the future hold for you?
Don’t know. I only hold hopes, that my family and friend’s health is good.
