On the Couch with Ross Daniels

Ross-Daniels-AAR-On-the-CouchWho is Ross Daniels?
An Australian actor with over 30 years in the entertainment industry. I think I’m getting the hang of it. Although not extremely famous, I’ve done enough that passersby will often give me a double-take then stare at me like I might owe them money.

What would you do differently to what you do now?
Not much. I’m pretty happy with the way things have gone. I’ve in stayed in work almost all of my acting career and most of that work I’m proud of. Maybe I’d watch a little less TikTok, and I wish I’d jumped on Bitcoin early.

Who inspires you and why?
Anyone in the arts who uses their voice to help bring about change. It’s admirable. Politicians don’t really inspire me, but they do often remind me not what to do or say in public. Gee those winter Olympians are good. Especially the moguls. Much better than the one on Succession.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
Sleep in more. Let’s face it, the longer I stay in bed, the smaller my carbon footprint. Put the milk in before I pour the tea. More people prefer that than you’d think.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
New Zealand. Beautiful, so much to do and closer than Perth. Lots of moguls there I imagine. The nice type. Ideally pop around to Jacinda’s for a cuppa. Wonder if she puts the milk in first?

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
Whatever show I’m doing at the time. Obviously, they’ll want see the hottest ticket in town. Pity the Docklands Wheel is no longer happening. You could see my place from up there. (It’s all about me really isn’t it?)

What are you currently reading?
The use by date on the milk. It’s like a very short thriller, sometimes with a twist at the end. For a lazy summer’s afternoon where you want to drift off and not think or even remember what you’re reading – Fifty Shades of Grey. A lighter read with the kids I’d recommend Dostoevsky’s Crime and Punishment.

What are you currently listening to?
The neighbours arguing. Hopefully that won’t go for too long. Podcasts. There just aren’t enough of them are there? I’m very keen to find a podcast that takes us behind the scenes of a podcast about the making of a podcast.

Happiness is?
Nearing the end of a questionnaire. World peace. Gosh that’s going well, isn’t it? Actually, I recently spent ten days interstate with family I hadn’t seen for over two years. That made me pretty happy!

What does the future hold for you?
Well, I always wanted to be an astronaut. So hopefully I’ll become a billionaire. That seems to be the easiest route. Apart from that, probably just working until I drop. And that’s not a bad thing. I mean I’ve known very few actors who actually retired. But the future? Who knows? And that’s all part of the fun!
