On the Couch with Rohan Browne

Rohan Browne Arts Review On the CouchWHO IS ROHAN BROWNE?
Over an extensive career, Rohan Browne has established himself as one of Australia’s most versatile performers that has encompassed roles on the stage film and television. Recent credits include: SELF; Strictly Ballroom, and Singin’ in the Rain – which cemented him as one of Australia’s leading male ‘triple threat’ performers.

WHAT WOULD YOU DO DIFFERENTLY TO WHAT YOU DO NOW?
I am a creative beast so it would be something to do with the creative world. Whether that be in an environment – like a restaurant or bar or creative in design – I have owned and run a menswear accessories range called His Handsome Self for the past 4 years!

WHO INSPIRES YOU AND WHY?
I am inspired by people who really make a difference in the world. The people that challenge themselves and other people for what they really believe. They are the people that make a change and make things happen for the greater good. The everyday man/woman who fights for their rights and  passions that then move mountains.

WHAT WOULD YOU DO TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE WORLD?
If I had one thing that was absolute – I would overhaul the way the world is run – it is a twisted broken system that doesn’t serve “the people”. We are currently living in a time where powers that be don’t have the people’s hearts in mind. It is run by greed, corporations, environmental destroyers and self-serving powers. What is happening right now, globally, is frightening.

FAVOURITE HOLIDAY DESTINATION AND WHY?
Having recently returned from Paris this is hard because it is still so fresh and beautiful in my mind… But potentially Bora Bora – my wife and I spent a day there about 3 years ago and we always said we would LOVE to go back. The beaches are out of this world!

WHEN FRIENDS COME TO TOWN, WHAT ATTRACTION WOULD YOU TAKE THEM TO AND WHY?
Being a true Melbournite, I would spend the day hopping from café to café, interspersed with art gallery sojourns, traipse down the Yarra, stopping for some afternoon drinks along the way and then go to any multitude of new restaurants that make Melbourne the culinary capital of Australia.

WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY READING?
I am currently reading Kevin Hart’s I Can’t Make This Up – a funny, touching, moving and inspiring story of a man who came up against all odds to become one of the biggest comedians on the planet. A candid look at the struggles he faced and his positivity to keep persevering through obstacles to achieve his goals. It is a brilliant read and inspiring. But while I am here, a book that really affected me and is a beautiful look at artists, love and the reason why we do what we do is The Museum Of Modern Love by Heather Rose. Check it out!

WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY LISTENING TO?
This great young Aussie artist doing super things around the world – Jordan Rakei’s new album, Wallflower.

HAPPINESS IS?
Being at home with the wife and having our closest friends over, listening to music, having a laugh, sharing stories and enjoying a meal!

WHAT DOES THE FUTURE HOLD FOR YOU?
Who knows – but if the past is any indication – a great bunch of wild and varied things in a world I love and in a job and passion I couldn’t live without.
